Starting and growing an electrical business requires knowledge, experience, and the ability to overcome challenges. Ashish Ramdasi, a dedicated electrician and entrepreneur, shares his journey, the hurdles he faced, and his expert insights for newcomers in the industry.

Q&A with Ashish Ramdasi

Q: How did you start your electrical business?

A: I initially started by selling electronic products on eBay.com. However, after Flipkart acquired eBay, the platform was shut down, forcing me to look for other business opportunities. Around that time, a relative who owned an electronics shop wanted to retire. He offered me the chance to take over his shop, and I saw this as a great opportunity to continue working in the industry. That’s how my electrical business started.

Q: What challenges did you face after starting the business, and how did you overcome them?

A: There were several challenges. One major issue was dealing with neighbors who didn’t want my shop to operate. They created various problems, including objections to my shop board. Additionally, my online business faced issues with returned orders, many of which arrived in damaged condition. While I managed to resolve the neighborhood issues, I decided to shut down online sales to avoid further financial losses.

Q: What advice would you give to someone new in the electrical business?

A: If you’re new to this industry, here are some key insights:

  • Gain in-depth knowledge about electrical and electronic products.
  • Seek guidance from an experienced professional who understands the business inside and out.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers to get high-quality products at competitive prices.
  • Stay updated on new electrical technologies and trends to remain competitive.
  • Focus on excellent customer service to build a loyal customer base.

Q: Any success story you would like to share?

A: While I haven’t had major bulk orders in retail, my proudest moments were during my online selling phase. I fulfilled large orders of home theaters and mixers across India through platforms like Snapdeal. It was a rewarding experience to see my business reach customers nationwide.

Q: What are your future plans for your electrical business?

A: I am dedicated to growing my retail sales and expanding my repair services. I also plan to restart my online selling business in the future, but this time with better strategies to avoid previous challenges.
